Home decorators collaborate with homeowners to decide how the inside of a house will be decorated. They need to make sure that their decoration ideas match what the homeowner wants and ensure that the decoration ideas are practical and affordable. Additionally, home decorators are often in charge of working with other professionals like furniture salespeople and painters to make sure that the proper materials and services are delivered.

I guess this is one of the best job where you don’t just have to listen unwillingly to your boss and work deadlines to get a pay. But you just have to use your creativity to make things look more charming. As an interior decorator you will have the satisfaction of making your vision a reality. Also you can enjoy the freedom of being your own boss. Even if you work under someone, you still have the freedom to give you own ideas. And perhaps most importantly, your “work” will be fun, interesting, and rewarding.

Required Education

To be an Interior Decorator, no formal education is required as such, but you may want to complete a certificate or degree program from a vocational school or community college in order to be better qualified for a job. Interior decorators are expected to know about the various elements involved in decorating such as: space planning (how to arrange furniture and other items within a particular space), use of color and light, furniture and decorating styles (for example, Colonial or Southwestern), floorings, wall coverings, window treatments, and use of accessories such as pillows and paintings.

You can learn decorating basics through courses, books, web sites, and even by speaking with retailers of products used in home decorating (paint, carpet, lighting, hardware stores, etc. One can even start it with their home itself. The best way to do is when your family is renovating their houses, you can go there, have a look and recommend your creative ideas to them. Afterall, you want to learn by yourself.
