Crazy for movies? New and exciting ideas of movie scenes go on inside your mind? You keep thinking about making your own movie? This is the right place my friend. Film directors shape a film by creating their own vision. From beginning, Bollywood has produced some of the talented and rarest directors.

What do directors actually do?

Directors turn a script into a movie; they are responsible for the quality of the final product and its success. In most cases, directors work on films far longer than any actor, technician or editor, from the first day of telling his vision to actors and other working  on movie to the final release, so you can think how stressful and draining work is this.

Directors have to take care of every aspect of a film, so they have the maximum workload too. Directors work with actors, makeup artists, cinematographers, writers and film, sound, and lighting technicians.

They determine all the particulars of how scenes are to be shot, from visual requirements to the placement of the actors and the appropriateness of the script. Directors cast actors who can bring their vision to the screen.

Film directors are involved in the editing process on a holistic level, cutting the film or tape and integrating the pieces into the final product. They also collaborate with sound editors on added special sound effects and soundtracks.

As much as this profession demands hard work and dedication, in the same way it is rewarding too. It can make you famous over night if you have true talent and the power to make your movie, your creativity reach to the masses.

Famous names from India and abroad

1 Yash Chopra
He is known as the “king of romances”, but strangely enough his best films aren’t romances. Be it ‘Dewaar’, ‘Kaala Paani’, ‘Itefaaq’ or ‘Mashaal’. Even ‘Lamhe’ — that was way ahead of its time and among his finest — can’t be referred to as a romance in the traditional sense. Chopra, like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, wasn’t an auteur, but he reached audiences in a way that only he could. He didn’t influence filmmakers; he influenced filmgoers. And more than the films themselves, it is the scenes and moments in his films that people fondly recall. This shows that not only he had a very good idea of the pulse of his audiences, but also, an immaculate sense of timing.

2 Mani Ratnam

The man who revolutionised Tamil-language cinema, Mani Ratnam is the biggest director in south India and one of the most respected directors in all of India.
